
Resident favourites include the Eyed, Poplar and Lime Hawks and the captivating Puss Moth which boasts one of the most remarkable larvae anywhere on the planet and best of all, it is one of the easiest species to breed.
The most widely bred exotics are the Chinese Oak Silk Moth (Antheraea pernyi) and the breathtaking Indian Moon Moth (Actias selene). Both species boast huge adult moths that pair easily and magnificent larvae that are a joy to rear in large plastic containers or cages.
Native British pupae should be stored through the winter months in the crisper drawer of a refrigerator or in air tight containers in cool out buildings. Exotic silk moths cocoons are best stored in cool, dark conditions at room temperature, or in outbuildings depending upon the species concerned.
