Sent when ready in May or June. The poplar hawk is one of our most widespread sphinigade and was once a common sight on railings and fences in suburban areas. On the wing in May and June, this species is easy to mass rear in ventilated cages or tubs kept in cool out-houses. Larvae take poplar, sallow, willow and I have also reared them successfully on apple in their later stages. Pairing is virtually guaranteed and the adults stay together throughout the next day in the familiar hawk moth pairing position. Attractive and fascinating in all its stages this is another UK sphinigade that is fun to rear and release. Highly recommended for schools and beginners.
