Sent when ready in July or August. (Third party breeder). The clouded yellow is a regular migrant to the UK although its numbers can vary greatly each season. Adults migrate here from North Africa and Southern Europe, sometimes in such great numbers that these events have become affectionately known as 'clouded yellow years' - 1947 and certain years in the early eighties were particularly notable for this species.
Eggs are generally laid on clovers and lucerne and bird's foot trefoil has proved an excellent food source for captive rearing. Larvae thrive in warm and sunny conditions and grow very quickly.
Larval foodplants: clovers (trifolium); bird's foot trefoil (lotus corniculatus); lucerne (medicago sativa).
